Day 3: Litteraturhuset

I met a friend for lunch today at a popular cafe in Oslo, Litteraturhuset. I have never been before, so I am glad to have checked that off my list. Apparently it is the place to go, and it was proved today when multiple familiar faces sat around at the cozy tables.

Had to buy this when I saw it in the store. Maybe it's plain, but I really like it. Perfect for my trip to London this weekend! Bik Bok has become one of my favorite stores, one reason being they don't have it in the states.

A beautiful day in Oslo.

Today is a sad day. I'm sure you already know that two years ago an evil man massacred innocent children on an island and blew up a building, killing over 70 people. The Norwegian people responded with love, love for the victims, love for the families affected and love for our country.

 

Personally, I was not affected, nor was I in the country when it happened. I was far away in Vietnam, spending the night in a monestary.

 

Regardless, today is a sad day. But it's funny, in a way, how life goes on. I am at work just like I would be on a regular monday. And yet there are people in Norway today who are once again reminded of this dreadful event, feeling more pain and loss than I could imagine.

So to the families left behind, I pay my respects. My thoughts are with you.

I was walking the streets of Oslo, and all of a sudden a young man came up to me. He said hi, told me he was a boy from the country and that was why he was so nice. He told me I had beautiful features, that I looked fabulous, and told me I was smart, since I was studying business. He shook my hand, introduced himself (Nick), and asked me to promise him something: "remember to have a great day."

Now, I don't think I am particularly pretty, but he made me feel like the most beautiful woman on the planet. The reason I am posting is,

A) because it made me feel good, and

B) I thought it important to share a story about something good in the midst of all the sad things going on in this world.

There are still good people in this world, and people still do good things.

Lunch in the rain outside my office. The umbrella kept me dry and the coffee kept me warm. Why sit in a stuffy kafeteria with no windows if you can sit outside in a great city like Oslo.

Walking around during my lunchbreak I came upon a church. I am in no way religious, but this building is beautiful. Just thought I'd share.

The second Starbucks in Norway, and it's right next to where I work. Just such a shame that the lines are endless and the vanilla latte is not up to par.

Went for a stroll during my lunch break. The sun almost came out, along with a nice breeze. It's good to be a norwegian in Oslo.

Ate a wonderful dinner at Jacob Aall at Aker Brygge (Oslo) after checking out an art gallery. Nice way to spend the hours after work.
